Daniel and Jesca Nandi

After graduating from Pacific Life Bible school, Daniel returned to Kenya and established Western Bible College.Operating a Kenyan Bible College in a depressed rural economy continues to be a challenge for Daniel and his wife Jesca. Daniel works hard to find tuition assistance for students and the finances required to pay college staff. Daniel uses our financial support to help make the college financially viable.

Despite the hardships, Daniel has dedicated his ministry efforts towards providing vocational education to aspiring pastors before they pioneer their own churches. Western Bible College functions as a catalyst for church growth in rural Kenya. Daniel pastors his own church and continues to care for the people of rural Kenya.

Nancy Odwaro

Nancy is a Kenyan widow with a heart to provide encouragement and friendship to other single parent women in her own community and surrounding villages. Nancy lives in the rural Vihiga district of Kenya. Vihiga District has a population of 498,883, of which 266,163 are women (information source, 1999 Kenya National census report). This represents 54% of the total population in the district.

The community living in Vihiga district has suffered devastating effects of extreme poverty and utter hopelessness from morbidity and mortality rates that are hallmark of HIV/Aids pandemic and negative cultural practices and believes.

Innocent children and women have been orphaned and widowed respectively, and forced to live under very difficult conditions that expose them to exploitation by others. Gender disparity is a cause for alarm in this community as women are hardly given an opportunity in areas of decision-making. This is manifested in areas of leadership as none of them are considered in elective positions. Women must work twice as hard and accomplish twice as much as men to be considered as good.

Most women (about 80%) are housewives and hence do not know what to do when their husbands who are the sole breadwinners die. This exposes them to exploitation as they try to make ends meet in bringing up their families. Many of them turn to prostitution as a means of livelihood.

Nancy is determined to give these women hope and encouragement through her annual women's conferences and weekly church meetings. Nancy will ride her bicycle to other villages to meet with the women there. Your support helps Nancy cover the costs of her conferences and provide gifts to the widows such as soap, sewing notions and other essentials that are hard to come by.

Micro-enterprise is on the rise in rural Africa; the Vihiga district is no exception. Nancy is facilitating a group of 200+ widows organized in 13 chapters who have the opportunity to run a livestock micro business comprised of cows and goats. These goats and cows produce milk and offspring which are sold to provide income; micro enterprise allows individuals to become self-sufficeint and sustaining instead of perpetually reliant on incoming sources of charity. Please consider supporting this invigorating ministry today.
